Mis-triggering Roland SPD-20 Total Percussion Pad

Some of the misfiring here is due to my rusty performance, but there are at least 3 times when I hit the snare that it does not trigger, while the hi-hat still does trigger. I'm assuming this has something to do with hitting the two in such sync that one signal is trumping the other due to some built-in feature that is supposed to keep the accidental dual triggering of two pads from happening when only a single pad was hit. It gets on my nerves very bad, and if this is how it's going to be, I'll have to return this one, too! I just experienced the same problem with an Alesis ControlPad midi'd into a Roland TD-6 sound module and thought it was something to do with the midi setup--but apparently this problem simply exists due to a fundamental design flaw in these types of percussion pads Can anyone confirm this?

Hip Hop Drum Machine: What Type Is Best For You?

!±8± Hip Hop Drum Machine: What Type Is Best For You?

Hip hop music is characterized with DJing, rapping, beat boxing and sampling. The soul of the genre is the drum beat the hip hop drum machine plays a big role in its production.

A drum beat machine can produce practically any percussive sound you need in your productions. Since it is an electronic musical instrument, it is also capable of synthesizing and looping the sound it makes to produce beat patterns. Electronic drum machines are used in different musical genres and hip hop music is one of the genres that take advantage of it.

The demand for more unique sounds and elements in hip hop music production has greatly influenced the evolution of drum machines that is why most of the time these machines are called hip hop drum machines. From standalones introduced in the 80's like the Roland TR-808 and The LM-1 Drum Computer that feature programming and digital sampling capabilities, drum beat software programs are now trending in hip hop music production.

Drum machines, hardware or software, are designed not only to make drum beats by copying the sound of real drums, but also to produce unique percussive sounds and elements that can make hip hop music more lively and interesting. The elements usually heard in hip hop music can be difficult for a real drummer to produce. A unique sound is always an advantage if you want your music to be heard and become popular among listeners.

Two Types of Drum Machines

1. The hardware type - this type became less common since the introduction of software programs and music workstations. However, many artists, especially live acts, prefer using it because it has no audio delay. Accuracy of the sound and beat is also a feature in these kinds of hip hop drum machines. It is not complicated to use and can allow you to focus on creating your music. Although it has lost its popularity over the software, standalone drum beat machines are still being produced and popular among pros.

2. The software type - with this type you do not just have the ability to make drum beats, they also offer a wide selection of sounds, programming, sampling, looping and synthesizing capabilities and many other features needed in music production. Some machines are inclusive in other music software and workstations. There are many drum beat machines available online that you can enjoy right away. Depending on your recording needs and, of course, operating system, there are a lot of drum machines to choose from.

Advantages of Midi Drum Software

• One big advantage of software type drum machines are they are cheaper than the hardware type. The stand-alones are more costly because one unit needs materials and takes time to manufacture while a drum beat software is easy to make and highly accessible.
• Software machines are portable. Take your laptop anywhere and create music.
• In addition the only space it takes is your computer's memory.
• You can also easily edit your composition and once done, you can instantly burn a disc and share.

The hip hop music evolution has demanded great change in producing the beats that makes irs music. It is best to also keep up with the times and explore the latest drum beat machines available. The more the genre grows, the more sounds, drum beats and elements it would require. You can do more with software drum machines available, but you can still enjoy the quality of the hardware. The hip hop drum machine provides limitless possibilities in sound and music production in tune with your passion and creativity.

Brands of Guitar Amplifiers

!±8± Brands of Guitar Amplifiers

A wide range of instrument amplifiers is now available, some for general purposes and some designed for specific instruments and even for particular sounds. Traditional guitar amplifiers come up with a clean, warm sound, a sharp treble roll off at 5 kHz or less and bass roll off at 60 to100 Hz, often with built in reverb and tremolo units. Bass amplifiers have extended bass response and tone controls optimized for bass guitars (or more rarely, for upright bass).

Higher end bass amplifiers sometimes include compressor or limited features, which help to keep the amplifier from distorting at high volume levels. Keyboard amplifiers have a very low distortion and extended flat frequency response in both directions. Keyboard amplifiers often have a simple onboard mixer, so that keyboardists can control the tone and level of several keyboards. Acoustic amplifiers are designed specifically to produce a clean, transparent, acoustic sound when used with acoustic instruments with built in transducer pickups and microphones.

Some well known brands of guitar amplifiers

While there are almost innumerable manufacturers of guitar amplifiers, we will be discussing the most important brands that have created history in guitar amplification.

Carvin Corporation

The Carvin Corporation is a musical instrument and equipment manufacturer, located in San Diego, California, well known among guitar players for their guitars. Carvin was founded in 1946 by Lowell Kiesel, and originally manufactured guitar pickups. Carvin Corporation manufactures acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars and accessories, amplifiers, live studio sound equipments, microphones and lighting gears.

Korg Corporation

Korg Corporation is a Japanese multinational corporation that manufactures electronic musical instruments and guitar tuners. The company is one of the most widely used and respected names in the electronic music world. Founded in 1962 in Japan by Tsutomu Kato and Tadashi Osanai, Korg was originally known as Keio Electronic Laboratories because its fledgling offices were located near the Keio train line in Tokyo and Keio can be formed by combining the first letters of Kato and Osanai. Yamaha Corporation has always been a major partner of Korg, supplying them with circuitry and mechanical parts.

Marshall Amplification

Marshall Amplification is a British company which designs and manufactures electric guitar amplifiers. Marshall Amplifiers are well known and highly popular among guitarists. Marshall Amplifiers were originally built as direct copies of Fender amplifiers, but soon incorporated certain traits which made them more favorable to guitarists seeking a heavier sound. Like most professional level amplifiers, Marshall amplifiers still use valve preamp and power amplifier stages instead of solid state devices. Marshall also manufactures cheaper solid-state or hybrid devices.

Vox

Vox is a musical equipment manufacturer, which is most famous for making the AC30 guitar amplifier and the Vox electric organ. Founded in Great Britain, Vox is now owned by the Japanese electronics firm Korg. In 1959, with sales under pressure from the more powerful Fender Twin and from The Shadows, who requested amplifiers with more power, Vox produced what was essentially a double powered AC15 and named it the AC30.

Roland Corporation

Roland Corporation is a Japanese manufacturer of electronic musical instruments, electronic equipment and software. It was founded by Ikutaro Kakehashi in Osaka on April 18, 1972 with 33 million yen in capital. Some of the recent amplifiers from Roland Corporation are Roland SH 201, Roland Juno G, Roland MV 8800 and Roland V Synth GT.

Roland Drum Machine - The Ultimate Guide Is Here

!±8± Roland Drum Machine - The Ultimate Guide Is Here

If you're looking for some great beats to rap over, of just want to add a few realistic drum sounds to your music, look no further than a Roland drum machine.

I've always been a big fan of the MC 307 which has some great electronic sounds and is usually available on eBay for quite a good price.

*Pro Tip* The biggest thing I have leaned over the years when buying this type of equipment, is that as soon as you bring it home the value is cut in half. So now I buy everything secondhand after the value has already decreased;-)

Pretty sneaky...

Just to let you know, I've been using the Roland drum machine for around three years so I should be able to give you an insider view before you buy.

Let's continue...

You probably already know this but Roland not only produce great beat machines but also put out a massive range of quality musical instruments as well. The instruments are now thought to be among the best in the world. This means that you can feel confident you're getting the market leading beat creator for your music. I think it's safe to say that the Roland drum machine is the best in the world right now.

WARNING!

I do have to let you know that using a beat machine is quite old school and can be fiddley to get your head around. A software program like Reason would allow you to get all the benefits of using a Roland drum machine, but give you much more flexibility and ease of use when it comes to editing. Although for me a beat machine has always been the way to go because you can get your hands on it, and it will never ever crash when you're out playing live!

Final thoughts...

The best thing about the Roland Drum Machine is the sounds, no other piece of gear will give you such a massive range of really nice beats and loops. There is nothing worse that hearing a really good track that is full of rubbish sounds. It makes your music sound really bad, so either jump on eBay and pick up a Roland drum machine, or go for the Reason option.

Good luck.
